Check your tyre pressure!

Your tyre pressure and the environment…

Tyre pressure might not sound like an environmental issue but this tiny habit could help reduce your emissions and save you money!

Under inflated tyres make your engine work harder, which means burning more fuel and releasing more carbon into the air.  In the UK, incorrect tyre pressure is linked to around 2 million tonnes of extra CO2 released every year, just from the extra fuel being burned. That is a serious amount of unnecessary carbon, all from something that takes five minutes to fix.

It is not just carbon. A tyre under inflated by 10 psi can cut fuel economy by up to 3 percent, and one that is 20 percent underinflated wears out 30 percent faster. That is more fuel burned, more tyres binned, and over £600 million spent across UK drivers every year. Michelin data shows at least 60 percent of UK drivers are running on under inflated tyres, so there is a good chance this applies to you right now.

The easy fix!

I’m sure you know how easy it is to get the right tyre pressure at the air pump but the hard part is remembering you need to do it! That’s why we are asking you to set a monthly reminder on your phone to pump your tyres up! Save money and the planet.
