Why you need a smart metre?
It’s simple maths. Smart meters save an average of 3.4 percent of electricity consumption and 3.0 percent of gas, both proven with statistically significant data. That is a real cut in energy use, driven simply by people seeing what they use and adjusting.
The bigger picture Over the year to April 2025, more than 1.25 million tonnes of CO2 emissions were saved by smart meters on the national network. That is the effect of millions of small household changes adding up.
It saves money too!
The smart meter rollout is expected to generate 6 billion pounds in net benefit, including 5.6 billion pounds in bill savings for UK households. Around 86 percent of smart meter users report reducing their energy usage after getting one. So simply, it’s better to have one than not have one.
