Update on Nicholson Centre Development & Carbon Release

An update for our ECO Action supporters

ECO Action has been assessing the carbon impact of the proposed Nicholson Centre redevelopment. After detailed analysis and constructive discussions with the developers, Areli, we have agreed to withdraw our objection to the plans.

While the demolition of the old shopping centre is regrettable, it is an essential step toward regenerating Maidenhead’s town centre into a more vibrant, sustainable, and economically resilient place.

Our updated assessment shows the redevelopment will create environmental advantages that more than outweigh the embodied carbon deficit from the demolition and reconstruction.

ECO Action will continue to work with Areli and RBWM to promote greener outcomes as the project progresses and to ensure that sustainability remains at the heart of Maidenhead’s transformation.

You can read our full assessment and conclusions in the document linked here.

What the COP is going on?

Online event on Nov 7 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm GMT

Overview

What’s in it? Want to hear about the history and importance of COP, and the key policies and agreements COP have established to help tackle climate change?

What’s the back story? 2025 marks the 30th year that the UNFCC Conference of the Parties (COP) is taking place. This year, COP 30 is being hosted by Belem in Brazil. COP 30 is already quite controversial due to the construction of a four-lane highway that goes directly through the Amazon Rainforest.

Tell me more! This online event aims to help translate for you what is happening at COP – from explaining the science of climate change (a summary from the IPCC report) to the history and importance of policy agreements, such as the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement.
