Love our street

The Problem

Our streets used to be for people. Now they’re for cars. Walk down any residential road and you’ll see it. Pavements narrowed by parked cars. Verges churned to mud. Kids who used to play out front now stuck indoors because there’s nowhere safe left to play. Cars mount kerbs, block junctions, and sit engines running outside school gates. All that idling and short journey driving pumps fumes into the air we breathe, right where children walk to school and people sit out in their gardens. The bit of green space where neighbours used to stop and chat is now a parking spot. The space outside the shop where kids used to gather is a drop off zone. We’ve handed over public space, bit by bit, without ever really choosing to. Nobody voted for this. It just happened, street by street, so gradually that nobody noticed. All of this leads to…

Limited bio-diversity
traffic congestion
underused public space

Streets can be more than roads… They can become:

Safer places for walking and cycling

Greener and healthier environments

Social hubs for neighbours

Community energy networks

Spaces that improve wellbeing

Greener streets for all, connected communities, resident led action, healthier safer places, community building
